1. Robots are relativley recent. They were invented in 1954 by Devol and in1962 the first industrial robots are built. But, what is a robot?
    1. The word robot comes from the Czech robota which means forced labor or heavy work In effect, at first, robots were used in industries for dangerous activities like welding, die casting and forging
  2. One of their major advantages is that they can work continuously for days and years These robots are used for repetitive painting, welding and operations like picking up and placing materials on the manufacturing line
  3. Robotics is present in many industrial processes

  4. But robots, now, are used not only in factories. They are used in households too
  5. There are two types of joints
    1. Revolute-rotary joint
    2. Prismatic-slider joint
  6. The word kinematics indicates the spatial arrangement of the axes of movement of a robot in relation to one another, wich determinates the robot's possible motions
  7. Two types of robots: - articulated robot, (wich has six degrees of freedom) - gantry robot (wich has three axes of motion called x, y and z)
