1. 1. Weight
    1. Cisco-specific. Local to a router. Default: 32768 for locally sourced routes; 0 for all others. Route with the highest weight is preferred.
  2. 2. Local Preference
    1. Local to an AS. Communicated over intra-AS BGP sessions. Default: 100 for all routes. Route with highest local preference is preferred.
  3. 3. Locally Sourced.
    1. Empty path in the routing table.
  4. 4. AS Path length
    1. List of AS numbers between the local router and the source of the route. Prevents routing loops (router ignores routes with own AS in path). Enables router to make policy decisions based on AS preference. Routes with shorter path are preferred over those with longer one.
  5. 5. Origin
    1. i for IGP - self advertised via network or aggregate command. e for EGP - no longer used. ? for incomplete - redistributed. Route with lowest value is preferred. i<e<?
  6. 6. MED
    1. Multi Exit Discriminator, often referred to as 'Inter AS metric' or even 'metric'. Exchanged between autonomous systems. Used to tell the neighbors preferred routes when multiple connections are available. Lowest MED is preferred.
  7. 7. Prefer eBGP over iBGP
  8. 8. Lowest IGP metric to NEXT_HOP associated with the path.
  9. 9. Multipath
  10. 10. Compare RID
  11. If enabled - install multiple.
  12. If enabled, prefer lowest RID, or lowest neighbor IP.
