Causes
- 1. An abnormal cell develops. A section of chromosome 9 switches with chromosome 22. This creates an extra short chromosome 22 called a philadelphia chromosome.
- 2. Abnormal chromosome creates a new gene called BCR-ABL, which has instructions to produce too much tyrosine-kinase which promotes cancer by alowing cell growth to get out of control.
- 3. New gene allows for too many sick cells.
