Institutions (may) have changed... How?? Why??
-
4 : institutions change when individuals do
-
how do you get the balance between institutions and people
- 0 : bottom up - you set up small groups, interconnect and this informs the institution
- 1 : create a small group that are allowed to take risks. Analyse the results and at strategic times pass out the results and hence good practice
- 2 : the people with the power have to support change as a development tool not a threat
- 3 : effective advertising of the benifits of technology in the insitutes letting the people know how and why they can get so mcuh from it
- 4 : Maximim time for hierarchy.
- 5 : Get managment that know what they're doing...
- 6 : lead by example?
- 7 : effective advertising of the benifits of technology in the insitutes letting the people know how and why they can get so mcuh from it
- mentoring to develop more interesting enthusiasms
-
energy creators
- lots of energy creators on the bottom
- must have power to influence change...
- do they need to have power in themselves
-
energy zapper
- one person can stop change
- doesn't depend on where the zapper sits in the heirarchy
- is this a grounder?
-
energy neutral
- somebody who goes with the flow
- does what their told
- conformer
- read purple cow...Seth Goldin (from leanda)
-
businesses have to change quicker
- competition
- customer orientation
-
education is independent of business
- you make a change to education, you have to wait 11 years for the change to take effect
-
10 : Most people like 'status quo'
- 0 : If I make this change to my practice, will I lose my job?
- 1 : status Que = Comfortzone, takes outward thinking institutes to break that and its rare that they take those risks
- 15 : fear #splice
- 16 : Institutional change - can only break away from the status quo with new infrastructure and new strategy.
- 17 : self-interest, risk averse, extra work/time, environmental constraints, top-down or bottom-up?
- 5 : who decides on change and why?
- 0 : slowly
- 1 : Creating more 'paperwork' but it's on the computer now. repetition. Things take longer to do.
- 2 : How have organisations changed? Perhaps colleges/unis feel threatened by tech advances, especially informal learning in social networks.
- 3 : Changing slowly - most teachers aren't confident enough in the classroom to try ideas and recover if it goes wrong
- 5 : less face to face communication - more reliance on automated/virtual
- 6 : communications are wider and more accessable. teachers/students are slowly becoming more transparent
- 7 : less individual, like people whole company's are interacting and playing with the same ideas with only slightly different outcomes.
- 8 : they are pushing you to use new technology and adapt, whether you like it or not
- 9 : more communication, not necessarily more productive. more use of tech, not necessarily beneficial. online portfolios are becoming the norm
- 11 : Institutions may have changed, How? Why?Acknowledging that the technology has moved on but struggling to find ways to implement it.
- 12 : why? - cheaper, less staff costs to staff call centres and automated systems
- 13 : to change education Ofsted is going to have to move from its 'standard' lesson
- 14 : We are moving from real to virtual which has real effects. It includes communication, education, business and social lives.
-
How have you changed?
-
4 : I became more relaxed of what I put online
-
what causes being more relaxed?
-
12 : realising the value of doing stuff online. When do you see the value?
- 7 : Rita -.what you don't put online
- What's deeply personal vs. what you're happy for others to see
- Is the barrier between what we see as 'personal' and what we see as 'public' changing?
- 0 : the barrier is permeable, it is also very subjective, extros can be intro and vv, it is a different environment and rules to engage with
- 1 : I'm more aware about the things I don't share
- 2 : #splice barrier between personal and public? Perhaps it's become stronger as only the REALLY personal (or criminal) stuff is not online
- 3 : 'you' will appear online if you put yourself there or not. in forms such as facebook pictures/music sites/flickr
- 4 : Barrier changes when we become aware of the value of sharing something in public.
- 5 : #splice personal and public barrier changing? More personal stuff online than ever. Would still keep very personal things to myself.
- 6 : @splice definately. Apart from security issues, i am more relaxed about sharing and will share if i have seen peers sharing similar things
- What's the difference between people who love technology and those who hate it?

- So how do we organise ourselves? What is the relationship between the future-gazing bit, and the day-to-day bit?
- 0 : work in teams - roles may change but progress is made when the balance between operational and strategic gells
- 1 : it's given freedom for people to work away from an office environment and to work at a time that suits them
- 2 : I think taking first step is difficult. Once that's done, people start loving technology.
- 3 : older people tend to be more set in their ways and don't like change
- 4 : Interracting with technology can be a seperate hobbie and tends to be about improving things online day to day life is still treated seperat
- 5 : is the future going to grind to a halt with too much technology?
- 6 : technology needs to be led by those with the power to instigate change
- 7 : We use the technology and services that are relevant to our own world
- 8 : If you realise that other designers and developers are at the party then you have to join in or be left behind.
- 9 : @splice. Self Value? Company value?
- 10 : I see a deviding line in the future where some opt out and they are not necessarily those who lose out.
- 11 : Once you see tech can create opportunities, solve problems, then you see a connection between new tech and current practice.
- 12 : @splice are we all just leaving digital breadcrumbs?
- 13 : making personal environments bigger!!
- 14 : It gives more flexiblility and makes our life easy.
- 15 : Most of my dealings with technology are related to future-gazing. Only day to day management isn't.

What does grounding mean?
- 0 : to crush spices
