1. Normal Erythrocyte count
    1. Indicates no problem with erythropoiesis
    2. Implies that LD's symptoms are not solely caused by a decrease in RBC's
    3. HOWEVER this does not rule out RBC's as a contributory factor
  2. Low Haemoglobin count
    1. Suggests an abnormality in the morphology of the RBC
  3. Raised Leukocyte count
    1. Possibly due to a bacterial or parasitic infection
  4. High lymphocyte count from differential
    1. This suggests an immune response against 'foreign' material
    2. If these are T cells it would imply a cell mediated immune response
    3. Examples of T cell responses include various cancers and the H5N1 strain of the bird flu virus
    4. However a B cell response would indicate a humoral infection
  5. Normal RBC count BUT low haemoglobin levels
    1. Microlytic anaemia
  6. As we did not test for T and B lympocytes we cannot determine whether the high levels were caused by a cell mediated or humoral infection.
