    2. Student-Centered Learning
    3. Assessment and Evaluation
  4. 2 Goals
    1. It is sometimes difficult to assess the performance of clients in speech therapy. I would like to integrate collecting data digitally when I begin Graduate School at UWG in the fall.
    2. I would like to find more technology tools for those with learning disabilities since these are the majority of people that i work with in my job for Disability Services.
  5. Assistive Technology Tools
    1. JAWS screen reader software
    2. Dynavox AAC Devices
  6. My Threats
    1. Money will always be an issue. If I work for a school/hospital/private practice that has limited funding, technology might only be available if I bring my own personal laptop
      1. The free software available for download on the internet is immense. Things like XMind along with the EDU Glogs allow me to reach out to clients in a technology friendly generation.
    2. Many children may use devices for augmentative forms of communication. Learning how to use the devices may prove difficult, and turning around and teaching the family how to use it will also be challenging.
      1. Since Speech-Language Pathologists are required to attain a certain amount of CEU, I can choose to take courses related to technology and AAC devices.
    3. Working with clients who are not interested in technology or who have a negative view of technology will be difficult to include in therapy.
      1. By slowly integrating technology, such as a cell phone to practice phone skills, may rid a client of technology hesitation. The world is centering around technology, and I can only help clients acclimate to the new world of technology.
  7. My Opportunities
    1. Many classrooms have overhead projectors or SmartBoards - these might also be useful if a therapy room contains these as well
    2. Now that iPads are more readily available, I could purchase one as a work expense and use it in therapy to engage children who are non-verbal or non-social.
    3. Talking with other speech language pathologists that I will become acquainted with is always valuable. Another SLP who is working with a child or adult client may be implementing a piece of technology I hadn't thought of in a way that I never would have imagined. Reaching out via email, blog, or social networks are the new way to 'research' :)
  8. My Weaknesses
    1. I need to learn where to find technology related to speech therapy and how to effectively use it; there is a difference between just letting a child play with technology and then them actually gaining something from the experience.
      1. There are great websites/blogs related to technology and speech therapy, such as http://www.speechtechie.com/
    2. I can actually be too technologically savvy. In order for my clients to connect with the technology, I have to explain it in a way that will make sense and be easy to figure out.
      1. Learning ways to modify the terminology for my clients. Instead of Alternative Communication Device, I can just say "this mini computer will help your child connect and talk with you more effectively".
    3. There is so much information available about technology, I am not sure where to find it all.
      1. This class has given me greater intuition on how to research technology devices and tools that will be helpful as a future clinician.
  9. My Strengths
    1. I love designing PowerPoints, Movies, and any documents as long as I can be creative.
    2. If I do not know how to use a piece of technology, it rarely takes me long to figure it out and then teach someone else how to use it.
    3. I am in touch with Twitter and Facebook networks that link to sources for technology integration that I can easily integrate into my therapy.
