1. Chapter 1: How Many Raindrops (XANTHER)
   1. Xanther and Anwar are on a trip to go take the dog. It’s raining heavily. They head toward a bar for breakfast.
2. Chapter 2: Lupita’s (LUTHER)
   1. Luther enters Lupita’s, a bar in which his former gang works or spends their days. Luther has contrasting feelings about Lupita, the bar owner.
3. Chapter 3: Square One (ANWAR)
   1. Anwar and Xanther stop for breakfast. Some info about Dov being Xanther’s biological father. Some info about Xanther’s epilepsy.
4. Chapter 4: zhong (JINGJING)
   1. Flashback to when Jingjing meets “auntie” Tian Li. She may not be his real aunt since he talks about meeting her for the first time in a park. The community thinks of her as a strange person or a witch. Jingjing fears Tian Li’s cat. Jingjing finds Tian Li talking to Zhong, a rich famous man who seems to be messed up. Zhong asks Tian Li to talk to her and Se (who doesn’t know him) accepts.
5. Chapter 5: Big Surprise (ASTAIR)
   1. Some background about the Ibrahims. Their roof leaks with the heavy rain and the phones are bombarded with calls because of a prank by Mefisto (a friend/colleague of Anwar). Astair is at her last year of university in Psychology waiting to open her final paper evaluation envelope. Xanther’s surprise is a dog.
6. Chapter 6: The Orb (THE WIZARD)
   1. Cas and Bobby are two scientists in their mid-seventies who use an “orb” to see the past and future. They’re married. They’re hiding from police and possibly others. They’ve tried to share some data on the internet but failing. Cas hears the cat’s cry, that she had heard it before (p. 151). Some kind of action has just gone wrong, and some of their friends are still missing (see also p. 646).
7. Chapter 7: Power Draws a Crowd (ÖZGÜR)
   1. Özgür is a Turkish policeman. He arrives to the scene of a crime: a man and a woman have been murdered, allegedly during a robbery. A boy is held suspect.
8. Chapter 8: Dr. Potts (XANTHER)
   1. Xanther’s at her meeting with dr. Potts, a psychotherapist. Some background about the various moves of the Ibrahims caused by Xanther having “preds” at school. Infos about Xanther’s last seizure taking place in December 2013, during Dov’s funeral. Infos about Parcel Thoughts, α‖H8, and The Horrorsphere, an app that “does with pixels what knives could do to your face”.
9. Chapter 9: Blue Pencil (LUTHER)
   1. Introducing Hopi. He’s a boy brought to Luther by Teyo. Hopi’s always scared and stutters. Some background about Teyo that I didn’t understand. Introducing Luther’s gang: Juarez, the violent and brutal one, and Víctor, the mechanist. They go and have breakfast somewhere.
10. Chapter 10: Yeah man. Something died. (SHNORHK)
    1. Shnorhk’s a taxi driver. In the chapter, he’s in court for a process about a car crash. A student he needs for the process doesn’t come to the courtroom, so Shnorhk is deemed guilty of running the red. This could have implications on his job.
11. Chapter 11: Bones Nest. (ASTAIR)
    1. Astair is with her friend Taymor and the two twins at “The Urban Pet” shop. Falshbacks about Xanther’s last seizure. The dog they’re getting is trained to help people with epilepsy and costs $20,000.
12. Chapter 12: palace above the day. (JINGJING)
    1. Jingjing, Tian Li and Zhong are eating/drinking in a club. Jingjing hears the cat’s cry. then they go in a limo and travel to the ZSL building, 27th floor. Jingjing and Tian Li are shown to their bathrooms by 8/9 assistants, who speak Russian and Mandarin (which Jingjing understands). He and Tian Li are offered tea. The three go to the “owl room”, with many owls on display. Tian Li says she and some unknown other’s been there before, then has a seizure. Zhong doesn’t understand and starts to cry. Tian Li or Jingjing ask him to tell about his son.
13. Chapter 13: Veinte Pesos. (ISANDÒRNO)
    1. Isandòrno is at Marfa waiting for a bus to get to Papantla. He hears the cat’s cry. He’s the descendant of a long line of Mexica. An old man laughs at him from a distance, he gets closer and buys from him a totem made of paper and wood.
14. Chapter 14: The Horrorsphere. (XANTHER)
    1. Xanther and Anwar go to Sementera, Anwar’s workplace. Xanther discovers what her surprise is; then she’s shown Anwar’s “pet project”, a draft version of his videogame called Paradise Open. At the end of the chapter, Realic is mentioned and we discovered he died in a suspicious accident.
15. Chapter 15: Dawgz. (LUTHER)
    1. Luther’s with the gang in a warehouse and hears the cat’s cry. He unleashes his dogs (combat dogs?) to search for it but they just crowd into a pool. Hopi tells Luther he’s very good with programming and computers. Some background on Luther’s gang, and their parcel thoughts group, Dawgz Lawz.
16. Chapter 16: Prey. (ANWAR)
    1. Still at Sementera, the group tries to correct some bugs in the game. More mention of Realic S. Tarnen. Anwar tries to understand if a contract is confirmed (the money would go to Xanther’s surprise), when he hears the cat’s cry. Then Xanther and Anwar try out a first draft of Paradise Open.
17. Chapter 17: Is little irrelevant. (SHNORHK)
    1. Shnorhk’s been called from an Armenian friend, Mnatsagan, a History teacher, to help him move some boxes from his university campus to his . At the end of the journey, Shnorhk hears the cat’s cry. Then Mnatsagan says the boxes contain 729 (36) testimonies of survivors from the Armenian genocide.
18. Chapter 18: View of the Sea. (ÖZGÜR)
    1. Özgür is at a new crime scene, where three students were found bent over the side of a tub, tied and drowned. There’s some info about Realic being found in “carefully apportionated pieces”. An FBI agent arrives to take over the investigation. Özgür sees on a window the (mirrored) writing VEM, which he interprets as MEW. As he’s heading out, he hears the cat’s cry.
19. Chapter 19: Cinnamon. (ASTAIR)
    1. Astair hears the cat’s cry. She thinks about the dog and how she always wanted one. Then, she decides to open the envelope containing her essay evaluation.
20. Chapter 20: Litter. (XANTHER)
    1. Xanther and Anwar are on their way to take the dog. Xanther hears the cat’s cry, so she gets out of the car and rushing through the rainstorm reaches for it amongst litter, she manages to extract it and take it in her hand only to find out it’s already too late.
21. Chapter 21: raeden. (JINGJING)
    1. Jingjing and Tian Li are brought in a room with a boy in a coma – he’s Raeden, Zhong’s son. Tian Li was called because she’s a healer, but when she tries to cure Raeden she has an epileptic seizure. Jingjing is then brought to a party by the assistants. We discover that Jingjing speaks also Russian and that Raeden got ill after trying a drug, “pale blue”, which Jingjing tried too once. Then Tian Li comes to ask for Jingjing’s help and they go to Raeden again; Tian Li tries again to heal him and she has another seizure.
22. Chapter 22: Save him! (ANWAR)
    1. Anwar is lost in rain and traffic searching Xanther. At one point he feels a metallic taste in his mouth, like other characters throughout the novel (a seizure symptom?). At the end of the chapter, it’s Xanther that finds him, opening the door and screaming “Daddy! Save him!”
23. Chapter 23: Walk. (LUTHER)
    1. The gang is in a place full of holes filled with water. Juarez pushes Hopi in one of them and he can’t swim, so he’s brought up again my Luther. Then Luther begins to hit him and Hopi thinks it’s an initiation to the gang, until they menace him with a gun. Hopi starts to pray and Luther tells him to walk on water: “Your dios stands by you, I’ll stand by you”.
24. Chapter 24: The Fourth Crate. (ISANDÒRNO)
    1. Isandòrno’s taken a taxi from Papantla to Veracruz and he’s going to The Ranch. Four crates (instead of three) arrived from Africa. The first three held a small hyena, a baby elephant and a baby giraffe. He doesn’t open the fourth.
25. Chapter 25: Tiny Storms. (THE WIZARD)
    1. Bobby and Cas are at an hotel in Marfa to search Deakin. They ask the hotel manager to open his door with an excuse, and smoke pours out of the room. Deakin is not inside. Cas finds out that Deakin destroyed his Orb, hence the smoke. They discover Sorcerer has made it to escape. After, they pack up their things and leave. (Flashbacks and info about the Orb, Clips and Cas and Bob’s past. A paragraph on Realic, whom they had sent info. There are 5 Orbs: Cas’s, the Sorcerer’s, Deakin’s among them. Among the enemies of Cas and Bobby are Recluse, the Distribution and VEM. In Clip #6 there’s Xanther with her father, which Sorcerer was a good friend of, in Athens, summer 2008.)
26. Chapter 26: “Mom, it’s a –”. (ASTAIR)
    1. Xanther and Anwar return home. Astair sees the bruises and cuts on Xanther and thinks she’s had another seizure; then she sees the cat and wants to throw it out of the .
27. Chapter 27: auntie! (JINGJING)
    1. After they return home, Tian Li acts strange: she sleeps too much, gives Jingjing her necklace, wants ice cream, she doesn’t remember things… At home they find all doors and windows open, but nothing’s missing. Jingjing goes to the void deck, then returns home and asks Tian Li where’s her cat – to which she responds saying it’s “gone for good”.
28. Chapter 28: , dead. (ANWAR)
    1. Anwar’s gone with Shasti and Freya to the pet shop to buy something for the cat. When they get home, he finds Astair crying: she’s open her envelope and her essay is ranked with an F, “incomplete”. Anwar then thinks about what happened and can’t admit how Xanther brought the cat back from the dead. He then works on his computer project and discusses it with Xanther. Then he checks on the cat to find he’s missing; he thinks Xanther has taken it to her bedroom.
29. Chapter 29: St. Hopi. (LUTHER)
    1. Luther walks and he doesn’t sink in the water: the pool is shallow. Then, he brings Hopi to another pool and he slips inside, whispering “Forgive me”. Hopi dies, finished by Luther with a shovel. Now Luther’s home, drinking, and he feels something strange, an “awareness”.
30. Chapter 30: If Anything… (XANTHER)
    1. (Flashback: Xanther remembers how she saved the kitten: Anwar’s mouth-to-mouth breathing was useless, but when she tried the cat breathed out of her all of her air and then moved, retching water and a dark, clotted liquid all over the car; then they brought it to a vet and returned home.) Xanther wakes up, and finds the kitten next to her in her bed. The storm has stopped.
