Note, Callout, Label, Link and Attachment

A Topic might not be enough for you to write everything in. There are several elements which are quite handy for elaboration. They allow you to have a broader picture of your mind map and record what is relevant.

Note

Note elaborates or annotates on a Topic. You can simply jot down some texts in it as a reminder to this Topic, or use it to record ideas. For example, converting your texts in bulletpoint style is awesome for information extraction. Texts style are changable as well: bold, italic, underline, ordered/unordered list and etc.

Add/Delete Note

Add Note

  • Toolbar: Choose the Topic, then click Insert > Note.

  • Menu Bar: Choose your tartget Topic, then click Insert > Note.

  • Shortcuts:
    Windows: Ctrl + Shift+N
    Mac: + + N

Delete Note

Deleting the contents directly, or Right-Click Note > Delete

Callout

Callout helps to annotate Topics. Edit shape, color and text style in the right format panel.

Add/Delete Callout

Add Callout

  • Menu Bar: Choose your target Topic, then Insert > Callout.

  • Setup shortcuts in Preferences > Shortcuts.

Delete Callout

Choose Callout and press Delete, or Right-click Callout > Delete

Add Content in Callout

  • Double-Click on Callout to type in texts

Edit Callout

  1. Shape: Choose different shapes.
  2. Fill: Fill in Callout with colors.
  3. Text: Change font, color, alignment, and etc.

Label

Label categorizes Topics, and it’s helpful to identify Topic content easily.

Add/Delete Label

Add Label

  • Toolbar: Choose your target Topic, then Insert > Label.

  • Menu Bar: Choose your target Topic, then Insert > Label.

Add Content in Label

  • A content box appears when you insert Label. Simply type in text in the box.

  • Use coma to seperate different labels.

Delete Label

Delete text in label, or Right-Click Label > Delete.

Xmind supports link insertion: Web Page, Topic, Local File, and Local File Folder.

Webpage

Enter or paste URL, then click to land on the webpage directly.

Insert Webpage

  • Toolbar: Choose your target Topic, click Insert > Link > Web Page.

  • Menu bar: Choose your target Topic, Insert > Link > Web Page

  • Shortcuts
    Windows: Ctrl +K
    Mac: + K

Edit/Delete Webpage

  • Right-Click the webpage icon, and click Delete.

Click Topic Link and land swiftly on the linked Topic. Topic Link can also connect Topics that are on different mind map sheets.

  • Toolbar: Choose your target Topic, Insert > Link > Topic. Choose the Topic you want to link with, then choose Insert.

  • Menu Bar: Choose your target Topic, Insert > Link > Topic. Choose the Topic you want to link with, then choose Insert.

Right-click the Topic Link icon, and click Edit or Delete.

Local File

Open files from a specific Topic.

Insert Local File

  • Toolbar: Choose your target Topic, Insert > Link > Local File. Choose the file you want to add in, then choose Insert.

  • Menu Bar: Choose your target Topic, Insert > Link > Local File.

Edit/Delete Local File

Right-Click the Local File icon, and click Edit or Delete.

Local Folder

Manage your file folders in mind maps.

Insert Local Folder

  • Toolbar: Choose your target topic, Insert > Link > Local Folder. Choose the file folder, then choose Insert.

  • Menu Bar: Choose your tartget Topic, Insert > Link > Local Folder. Choose the file folder, then choose Insert.

Edit/Delete Local Folder

Right-Click the Local Folder icon, then click Edit or Delete.

Attachment

Inserting files as an attachment in a Topic. The attachment will be a new Topic after inserted.

Insert Attachment

  • Toolbar: Choose your target Topic, Insert > Attachment. Choose the file, then choose Insert.

  • Menu Bar: Choose your target Topic, Insert > Attachment. Choose the file, then choose Insert.

View Attachment

Click the Attachment icon, Xmind will save the attachment and open it with the corresponding default application in your system.

Delete Attachment

Right-Click the Attachment icon, and choose Delete, or press Delete.
